This Privacy Policy explains how Smart Shopping Insights (“the App”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects information when a merchant installs the App on their Shopify store, and when a shopper interacts with the App's widget on that store's storefront.
When you install the App, we receive basic store information from Shopify (such as your shop domain) and store your App configuration — widget appearance, feature toggles, translations, and subscription/billing status — in our database.
The storefront widget tracks a shopper's recent activity — products viewed, items added to or removed from cart, and cart snapshots — to power features like recently viewed products, cart recovery, and the session timeline. By default this data is stored locally in the shopper's browser (localStorage) and is never sent to our servers. If a merchant enables optional cloud sync or cross-device recovery features, this activity data is also stored on our servers, associated with an anonymous or customer identifier, so it can follow the shopper across devices. We also collect aggregated, non-identifying analytics events (e.g. widget opens, add-to-cart actions) to help merchants understand engagement with the widget.
We use the information described above to operate and improve the App, provide the features a merchant has enabled, process subscription billing through Shopify, and provide customer support. We do not sell personal information to third parties.
We use a limited number of third-party service providers to operate the App, such as a live-chat provider for merchant support. These providers only receive the information necessary to perform their function and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Data we store is kept in secured databases with access restricted to authorized personnel, and we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect it against unauthorized access, alteration, or loss.
We retain merchant configuration data for as long as the App remains installed on the store. Shopper activity data stored on our servers (only when cloud sync is enabled) is retained only as long as needed to provide that feature, and is removed when a merchant uninstalls the App or disables the feature.
Merchants and shoppers may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold by contacting us at the email address below. A shopper can also clear their locally-stored activity at any time by clearing their browser's site data.
The App is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
